Porting a number question between family members
This question is for you phone gurus populating this forum. This is the scenario:
1. My mom has a Bell landline with a very bonny, easy to call back 416 number; she uses the phone sporadically as she also has a cell telephone (with another number) at her disposal
2. My daughter is 13 will shortly be ready for her own cellphone
3. My mom doesn't mind 'giving' her number to her thou-daughter and taking a new one in its identify; a phone number 'inheritance' if y'all volition
Basically, I'd like to setup my mom with Internet hookup (which she doesn't take presently) and a new phone number via VOIP, so abolish Bell landline account and 'move' my mom's 416 (Bell landline) number onto a new cellphone program that my daughter would be under and I'd be paying for.
My questions: is this doable? If so, in general terms, how would you advice I go about this?
Much appreciated.

Yeah this is doable.
For your girl you can port in your mom'south home number when getting the new cellphone plan.
Porting in your mom's dwelling house number automatically cancle the land line. So you should get a last telephone beak from bell.
You tin can get the voip with new number for your mom once you have the internet upwardly and running.
That's generally how I'd go about doing it. If I'm missing anything I'm sure some more knowledgeable rfders can correct me.
Now as far equally what'southward a good voip service and what'south a good cell plan to get...I'thousand sure you lot can find that on rfd;)
Hope this helps.

Oh this I'm not too sure off. I would say your mom don't actually accept to exist at that place with you lot to exercise the port. I would think they only demand some details of the account and I think they may enquire for a 4 digit pin to access the account. Porting closes the other account so no demand to call bong. Y'all can still call bell to verify the account is closed afterward the number have ported.
Hope this helps.

Technically no... every bit long as you lot have your mom's account no, cell#, and account info then you can practise a transfer. Since you're going bhell to bhell it's easier and less delay. However, it might be easier to have her in that location with you to speed shit up in instance you go asked a question you lot are not sure of. I asked this aforementioned question to robbers. I asked, "What stops a 2nd or third user from taking a cell on your account and porting information technology to another carrier to escape paying their portion of the nib??" They said zero does... but that person must know the business relationship info, password, etc of your account or they deceit port out. Point blank.
If the glove don't fit you must acquit! #WINNING

Good to know. My next pace is to setup online Bell account for my mom to ease the future transition; she is still in pay-by-post mode of functioning. Bell to Bell about likely as you suggested.

Assume you hateful an online account for bhell internet. As you know once you port out the mom to daughter line, it motorcar cancels on her account and she no longer has a landline based hf.

Some points to note (some already covered, but just clarifying):
ane - Y'all can port your mom's landline number over to a cell account no problem. It wouldn't injure to have her there with y'all, but you don't *demand* her there. You'll demand all her account info (phone #, account #, and Pivot would exist handy to have too)
two - DON'T CANCEL YOUR MOM'S LANDLINE ACCOUNT. When you port out your mom's landline number, it will abolish her landline account automatically.
3 - Note that without a landline, your mom's gonna be stuck with a dryloop fee on her cyberspace at home. Bong volition often throw home phone in for complimentary if y'all're bundling services like TV and cyberspace, and information technology sometimes ends up being cheaper than just having tv/net solitary... But fifty-fifty if it doesn't, dryloop + voip might end up costing more than than what you'll pay for a basic dwelling house phone line.

She'due south paying $60/calendar month for basic phone line connection with 2 options, I might go with a cheaper alternative like TekSavvy or such. I don't demand to save money, just not exceed what she already is paying Bell. I effigy $40 Internet and $ten Voip will do for cable connection.

Last fourth dimension I chatted with Bell they quoted me under thirty for a basic landline. Your mom is definitely being ripped off (not uncommon - all the big guys make huge profits of folks too lazy (or unaware that they're able) to call and ask for a better charge per unit)

Yeah, last time I checked it was something like $53 plus taxes, with 2 options that she really wants, telephone call display and something else, can't remember. They wouldn't talk to me since I'm not a primary account holder and her English is but non good enough to negotiate better rate... when I'm done she'll end upward paying similar price and get Internet and Netflix equally a bonus. Win win.
